When will you compile a native Symbian app (not slow java) for the new Nokia E90 and its big screen?
Many thanks

The J2ME version is, in my experience, very comparable in speed to a native Symbian application with the exception of writing to the device storage. Here the J2ME APIs don't give the developer a lot of flexibility and so for record writing it could likely be made much faster with a native version.
However, there is a big downside to Symbian development: it's incredibly hard! The whole development process and API were designed by crazy people. So almost anything that takes 1 day on J2ME, Windows Mobile or Blackberry, takes 1 week with Symbian.
I actually have started work on a Symbian version a while back but put it on the back burner. Other complications are that you have to do a lot of work to take a version that works on Series 60 and get it to work on Series 80/90 and Sony Ericsson.
So, for the near future, don't hold your breath for a native E90 version! |
